Affiliated Organizations

Affiliated Organizations are non-profit [501(c)3] corporations with purposes that support those of the KWI. They are designated Affiliates by the KWI Board of Directors. The KWI and its Affiliates share the following mutual rights and responsibilities:

  • Identification as a KWI Affiliate.
  • Mutual exchange of publications.
  • Publicity for the programs and accomplishments of each organization.

The KWI and its Affiliates have no mutual legal or financial obligations except those established by specific contract. To inquire about affiliation with the KWI, please email to: kwi.org@umich.edu or contact KWI.

Current Affiliates of the KWI:
  • Michigan Karst Conservancy Inc. (MKC)

    The Michigan Karst Conservancy is a non-profit [501(c)3] corporation with the purposes of carrying on programs of acquisition, management and protection of karst features and areas in Michigan, and scientific study and conservation education regarding karst.

  • Cave Research Foundation (CRF)

    Cave Research Foundation is a private, non-profit organization dedicated to:

    • Facilitating research, interpretation and management of caves and karst resources;
    • Forming partnerships to study, protect and preserve caves resources and karst areas;
    • Promoting the long term conservation of caves and karst ecosystems.

  • Hoffman Environmental Research Institute (HERI)

    The Hoffman Environmental Research Institute at Western Kentucky University is a consortium of scientists and students dedicated to research and higher education at the frontiers of environmental science. Its primary mission is to be a leader in the development of the dynamics of human-landscape-atmospheric interactions. A major goal of the Institute's activities is to actively involve undergraduate and graduate students in all aspects of this research as an integrated part of their academic programs with the purpose of nurturing their intellectual growth, critical thinking skills, and technical experience in the environmental discipline.

  • National Speleological Society (NSS)

    With over 12,000 members and 200 grottos, the National Speleological Society does more than any other organization to study, explore, and conserve cave and karst resources; protect access to caves; encourage responsible management of caves and their unique environments; and promote responsible caving.
